The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service, abbreviated as KUCCPS has the responsibility of allocating students around the country into various higher learning institutions which include; Universities, colleges, Polytechnics and TVETS.
This Government body initiates the selection of students into higher institutions of learning for Government sponsorship.
In the 2019 KCSE exams, 689,007 candidates were examined and 125,463 attained of C+ and above, the minimum university entry mean grade.For those joining TVET institutions, 53,726 will be admitted to diploma, 29,112 to Craft Certificate and 5,886 to Artisan certificate courses.
It was noted that the number of students placed in universities, 70,050 are male while 52,781 are female. TVET institutions will receive 39,695 male and 49,029 female students.
Student’s selected courses are placed under review by KUCCPS after which they are placed according to their performance and cluster weight points.
After the revision process is complete, applicants can check their placement results online via the KUCCPS students portal.

How to Check Course and University admitted for 2020/2021 academic year students;
Using the KUCCPS students portal
The 2019 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education, KCSE, candidates who had successfully applied for their preferred courses and Universities can their placement results. This can be done only if KUCCPS has officially completed the revision and placement process.
When announcement of the placement results has been completed, you can the proceed to use the process below to check where you have been placed
- Visit: https://students.kuccps.net/login/
- Login with your details as follows;
- Username: (Use your full KCSE Index Number)
- Year: The year you sat for KCSE (2019)
- Password: (Use your Birth Certificate Number or KCPE index number)
After successfully logging in, you should see a message like this one ,Congratulations, followed by a university you have been placed then finally the course you will pursue.
Through SMS notification
KUCCPS also sends sms notifications to applicants who have successfully secured a place in various institutions. This sms is sent to the registered numbers that you entered in the KUCCPS students portal. It contains all the placement details and is usually sent after announcement of the placement results.
Parents and guardians can start raising school fees and any necessary funds accordingly by checking which institutions their sons and daughters have been placed by KUCCPS.
The above procedures are applicable only to students who have been successfully admitted to Government sponsored programmes.
For those students who wish to transfer their placement for reasons best known by them, the student portal will be open from June 2020.
Admission letters will be sent either by July latest August. Note that some higher learning institutions such as, University of Nairobi, Moi University, Kenyatta University, Maseno University and others do not send the admission letters via postal addresses instead they place them online on their institution’s students portal from where you can download them.
